Incredible sets, I want one for all of our projects!

Justin Chitwood, AIA, Mahlum Architects

The brief

Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma, Washington, was opening its new emergency department in July. They wanted a small kit of the expansion as a thank-you keepsake for the ribbon cutting on July 22. The other companies they asked would only start at 250 kits, and they needed fewer.

We worked from their photos and drawings and fit the expansion into 386 pieces, with the low wings, the green courtyard, the flagpole at the entrance and the H sign on the roof. The box is navy with a light lid, and the lid and the booklet cover show the model over a light pattern of medical icons.

The 50 kits arrived before the event. At the ribbon cutting the architects on the project, Mahlum, were given three of them, and a few days later they wrote to us to buy more. The contractor building the expansion had one too.
