The brief

Mitsubishi Electric wanted brick models of its VARC HVDC circuit breaker to give away at CIGRE 2026 in Paris, the large power systems conference at the end of August. The request came through our website in mid June, so design, production and delivery had to fit into about ten weeks.

The breaker has two main parts that sit side by side. In the first renders the two parts needed rescaling, so we redesigned them and put both on one base. The finished kit has 583 pieces.

The box and the landscape A5 booklet follow Mitsubishi Electric's brand rules. At the team's request the box title reads simply "VARC HVDC Circuit Breaker".

We sent 50 kits to a hotel next to the venue. They arrived on August 22, the day before the session opened.
