Race with Dave is an incredible LEGO automaton designed by the Dutch automata builder Joost Schiphorst.
This automaton made entirely of LEGO bricks features Dave, a hardcore gamer, playing onto a race game on his big arcade machine (equipped with seat and steering wheel). Gran Turismo, Turbo Outrun, SEGA Rally. Whatever the game played, Dave is concentrating on the wide screen from his arcade and driving full speed pedal-to-the-metal.
Thanks to the rotations from the crank or from the embedded motor (you can by the way switch from one to the other seamlessly), a lot of details from this beautiful creation are animated: the foot of the character pushing the pedal, his arms turning aggressively the steering wheel and even the two cars racing within the arcade game.
Joost also injected into this compact build a lot of tiny details (on the gaming chair, the race background, the arcade and so on) that make the scene so realistic and so special.
